180718-Yurigahara Park Sapporo

Yurigahara Park, 210 Yurigaharakoen, Kita, Sapporo, Hokkaido 002-8082, Japan A must to visit during summer if you are a fan of flowers like me. 6 stops from Sapporo Station via JR train. Googled this park to visit as we were not too impress with the lavenders at Furaro.  Though it is only 6 stops from Sapporo station, the area is already very village feel. We did our recce a day before at about 6pm and realised there are no street lamps leading from the park to station. So we quickly leave the place and visit the next day. Once we step into the garden, the front may not be too appealing. But when you explore inside the garden, we were amaze by so rows and rows of lilies planted from one stretch to another. The park is huge and there are so many varieties of lilies.  I do not know there are so many kinds of lilies if I did not visit this garden. Plenty of greenery for us to stroll along this free and beautiful park. Not forgetting the healthy and big la

180717 Otaru, Yoichi

Image
Otaru - What you see here is what it is there. The short canal is the so call picture-some place. I guess people visit there for the history? For me, this is so touristy. Food are extremely expensive. We ended up having our snacks at the convenient stall. Otaru is easily accessible via Train from Sapporo Station. We spent less than 30 mins here and proceed to Yoichi after this. Yoichi Nikka Distillery Decided to travel from Otaru in less than 1 hour visit and take a train to Yoichi via Train. Our plan is to visit Yoichi Nikka Distillery and have sashimi at one of the fish shop recommended by Google Map. This is truly a unforgettable trip and would recommend anyone traveling to Hokkaido.  The whole compound is European like. They have a gallery where we can view a film about the founder whom is Japanese and married a English wife and how they met, how he went to Scotland to upgrade his distillery skills etc..I fell in love with this place immediately when we step in. 180713 New Chitose Airport Hokkaido

Image
Restaurants and food court are located at the 3rd level of New Chitose Airport. If you are like me who loves to try out the local fast food, this is a food heaven for us. I ate udon from Hanamaru. Matsuya is here but only sell mutton. There is also a ramien stall and other stall that is afordable at fast food prices. We have our breakfast cum lunch here. Cause I dare not eat too much food on board SIN-TKY flight to prevent going toilet, thus I ended up really very hungry cause domestic airline do not serve meals on board.

180714 Daisetsuzan National Park, Hokkaido

Image
Daisetsuzan - It is still active when we can see smoke coming out of the mountain. Low clouds surrounding the mountain. The view is breathtaking. We were lucky that when we hiked to the top, the clouds has moved away and the clear view awaits us. If you love to see mountain, you should visit here, by taking a bus from Asahikawa. The lakes were frozen. Due to its thick fog (or clouds?), we cannot see much. Still it is nice to have such a cool weather in summer. This is what we see on the way up the ropeway. Cannot see anything as the fog is so thick.  Frozen rivers and it is so beautiful.  Saw volunteers helping to clear the tracks like laying the rocks properly etc while I hiked. This made me appreciate the place more. Volunteers made an effort to place planks of wood from crate boxes to provide walk way for hikers when the road is down with puddles of water. It really helped. The ropeway station, when it is cleared from thick fog. Bus fare 1430 per way.

180715 Furano, Biei, Asahikawa

Image
View from Hotel, JR Inn in Asahikawa.  Furano - A trip is never complete without visiting the Lavender farm, the padi field. Biei - A visit to the famous Blue Pond and the Shirogane Water fall. Try booking a tour from the tour desk at Asahikawa Station. Though tour is conducted in Japanese, it is better than trying to travel by public transport.

180713 ANA Airline

The clouds above Japan after we take off Narita Airport towards Hokkaido. Another near to 2 hours flight. Our flight starts at 00.35am and reach Tokyo 8.35am. ANA definately won me over with their in flight meals. They packs snacks in a, goodie bag. Knowing that most passengers would be asleep, the flight stewardess would hand it infront of your seat. For breakfast, they really serve breakfast like pancakes with rasberry compote. So Yummy. For domestic flight, no food served. But was surprised they still serve beverages. Spotted the crater while on the way to Hokkaido. Hokkaido is located at the North of Japan with no direct flight from Singapore by ANA. To reach Hokkaido, we need to take a domestic flight to Hokkaido from Tokyo. This is how our trip goes. SIN to Tokyo - Depart Sin at 00:35, reach Tokyo 9:05. At Narita airport, we need to claim our baggage and go throught immigration checks. Just like we just entered Japan. Our next flight is at 10:00. Lucky, immigration
